Haters!

Apple does have a fantastic marketing team, but even the best-polished turd still eventually stinks. My MacPro does not! While there is certainly a hype factor, there must be more to it than that, i.e. truly exceptional products AND really effective, Hitler-level propaganda techniques.

I have taken a product back to the Apple store three times:

1) iMac G5--I left the computer on for several months straight, which I always do, but this time I ended up popping some crap or something and the logic board had to be replaced. I don't have to tell anyone here that's the whole fcuk computer. Replaced. FREE. 2 days.

2) 1st gen iPhone--I dropped the sonofabitch at least three times, hard, onto the ground. I'm fcuk clumsy. It didn't seem to effect the phone. About nine months into owning the phone, though, it started acting up a little bit, not responding well to my touches and stuff. I took it in looking all beat to hell, (the phone--not me), complaining about the touch problem. Replaced. FREE. Instantly--a BRAND NEW iPhone, 9 months after I bought it.

3) My MacBook Pro power adapter frayed about four months into my six month vacation in Iraq. I had my wife send me a new one. When I got back I used the new one at home, and soldered the old one back together to use it at work. (That way I only had to take the computer and not the cord.) A YEAR later, I took the cord into the Apple store (I was there for something else) and the dude saw it and asked what was wrong with it. Replaced. FREE. Instantly--18 months after I bought my computer, (Apple Care was WAY expired but he said he thought it was a safety concern).

Go try that crap with Dell.

That's what keeps me coming back--along with the things Pablo mentioned. The customer service is phenomenal. I feel respected, appreciated, and valued. For that I gladly pay a little extra.

That sort of service does not exist in this country. You take it back, they keep it for weeks and you pay through the nose for the privellege. So most people just stick with dell or whatever cuz it'll turn out cheaper in the end...

Apple is not built any better than any other PC on the market. Same components, same ODM all made in the same place. The difference with Apple is that they do take care of their customers when a problem occurs. I've seen many times that Apple will make an exception for the customer when they have dropped, spilled coffee, broken their LCD screen and are out of warranty. This is sort of an unwritten rule with Apple something that sets them apart from the other vendors.
